Skye enjoys some of the darkest skies in the whole of Europe, which means that the night sky can be viewed at it’s very best without the effect of light pollution.
From the sparkling belt of Orion during the winter months to the majestic Plough throughout spring and summer, there’s always plenty to discover and be thrilled by. To get the full effect of the Dark Skies a visit to Waternish in the winter is a must when the nights are so much longer and you might even be lucky enough to see an Aurora Borealis. May, June and July are not so good for Dark Skies because we don’t really have them!
So don’t forget to make the most of those clear Skye nights when you come to stay, who knows what you might see!
