Places in which to eat out abound all over the island, from fine-dining restaurants & hotels, to tea-rooms & cafes.
We are really lucky in the north west of Skye to have some wonderful restaurants and eating places close at hand. In Waternish we have the Michelin starred and 3 AA rosette restaurant Loch Bay Restaurant, For Coffees, tea and cake there is the Yurtea at Skyeskyns. A bit further field at Edinbane there is Edinbane Lodge and Edinbane Inn and in Dunvegan there is The Old School and The Dunvegan. Also within 30minutes is the Three Chimneys. Most of these restaurants require booking well in advance.
Local produce is to be found in shops & restaurants as well as at the croft gate, local produce markets and advertised craft fairs. A recent addition to Waternish is Donnie’s Tablet Shed which is a godsend for those of us with a sweet tooth. Basically there is a box with tablet and an honesty box on the side of the road!
Skye is renowned for its shell fish, traditional home baking, preserves and sweets, summer fruit & vegetables. Just keep your eyes open!
The island’s economy & sustained way of life benefits greatly from the purchase of local produce & services, so if at all possible please buy locally, and not at your home super-market. Wait till you get here you’ll be amazed at what you find!
Dunvegan Country Market usually on a Wednesday at the middle of every month. Dunvegan Community Hall – local crafts and fresh produce.
